There were alot of inspiring factors that went into this page. If I had to trace it back to it's beginnings, it would have been in July or August of 1981, around the time my Grandfather Thomas Jefferson Shelton Sr. passed away. My father and myself went to my grandparents house to do a little cleaning up and gathering of personal effects. While going through some papers we found items of interest pertaining to my Great Grandfather Homer Barham Jones. Specifically from what I recall, a photo of Homer B. Jones and his Company from the Tennessee National Guard, a 48 star burial flag from his funeral, a uniform sword from the Spanish American War, and notes that Homer B. Jones had made about the various battles and engagements that he was involved in during the Spanish American War.

This sparked my interest, and I began asking questions about Homer B. Jones. My father told me everything he knew, most of which is now unfortunately long forgotten by me. He took me to Homer's grave site, and we went through his notes trying to figure the man out just a little more. The picture still hangs in my fathers study, the sword and the notes were destroyed in a fire, and the flag is in my possession. For years I would visit Homer's gravesite when I would visit my Grandparents gravesites, and I would tell him how things were at the time. A lot of things have changed in the world since Homer passed away in 1949.

Many years passed while I went on with my life. In June of 2000, while returning home from my nephew Ryan's funeral in Tennessee, I began to wonder about our ancestors, the people who lived their lives, and in turn gave us our lives. Ryan had just become a man, and did not know where he came from, and I only knew a little about where I came from.

Another nine or ten months passed before I took action. I wrote my father a letter and asked for everything he knew about our ancestors. What I received in a two page response was a treasure trove of information. We exchanged information and he would offer more on what I would provide. When I started the Shelton MotorSports website, I realized I had the opportunity to openly share the information I had obtained. Having seen many Genealogical websites, I wanted to make mine a little bit different. I want to portray the individuals listed as the people they were. Some were far from perfect, but whenever you rattle a tree, a nut or two will surely fall out.

So with that, the genealogical pages that are contained are a tribute to the people who are discussed and portrayed. More than names, places, and dates, they are people with stories that beg to be told. I believe that Ryan is sitting somewhere with a few Thomas's, an Elijah, a few William's, Lynn and Homer, and those whom I have not yet found, maybe in a shack in Virginia, Kentucky or Arkansas, or just roaming around the places they have been, telling their stories to one another, watching over us, patiently awaiting the day when it is our turn to tell our stories and show them where we have been. Hopefully after reading these pages, they will not be strangers to you anymore.

I should offer a disclaimer at this point. I wish I could say that I had done all the research contained within these pages. Genealogy is a very time consuming and tedious task. Oral history from my father resulted in the information only as far back as Lynn Shelton and Homer Barham Jones. Further research based on this information led to my discovery of the information on Thomas Jefferson Shelton Jr (Lynn's father) on back in time. Information from Meridith Gibson and Tina Hall is echoed repeatedly throughout the my early SHELTON research. ANTHONY and BUCK information came from a compilation by Lillie Anthony titled "The Lewis Anthony Family and some Allied Families" which was given to me by Cousin Dorothy Harden. All other information came from numerous and varied sources on the internet.
